Cowboy Hats: Then and Now no comments
The hat that was defined by the region of the United States so affectionately referred to as the Wild West is the Cowboy Hat. A very small number of history’s icons stir this level of emotion like this piece of history can.
Before the inventor started making cowboy hats the citizens of the west would wear the hat of their past. Some would wear the hats of their native country while others wore hats that represented their previous work experience. All the way up and down society was represented in the leftovers of a different life. The cowboy hat gave them headgear that represented their current life.
Although the cowboy hat is recognized all over the world, it is the distinctive shape that will identify the region where the hat was made and usually worn. There was a time when the wearer could be recognized as from a certain region by his hat.
First the hat was all about function and when it started to get popular out west it was because they were functional for work and for dressing up too. In the second century since its invention it has become more a cultural symbol and fashion in parallel with the functional purpose.
There is very little difference between hat of today and hats of 1865 when John Stetson first made them in 1865. He sold the first Stetsons for five dollars in the little town of Central City Colorado. Although many know cowboy hats as Stetsons they are in reality referring to a brand and Stetson is not the generic term at all.
Cowboy hats were from an early time associated with a rougher segment of society and although that association is far less grounded today it continues to convey that feeling. The hats themselves seem to make one feel more rugged with its wearing.
Cowboy hats were first made to be protection from the weather conditions like snow, sleet, rain and the sun. Today although the hat can still serve that purpose they have far more to do with fashion that they do with protection in the majority of cases.
The fabric of choice these days is felt as it is far superior in terms of usability as it is more light weight, water resistant, smoother and is far more durable than other materials. Hats come in many colors but the grey, brown and black family dominate the cowboy market with the silver/grey hat being by far the most popular. Even women join this trend toward fashion and come in almost every color.
When hats were first made they were marked with Xs to display the quality. The more Xs on the hat the higher the content of beaver in the hat. Today the Xs have continued in use even though beaver has been discontinued for a long time as a hat making material. There is one flaw in this system. There is no standard so there is no way to compare between brands.
With that you now have a basis for understanding the history of the cowboy hat and how it has evolved today. When you wear one you will understand the symbolism and heritage that you have on your head and can enjoy the projected personal that it contains.

Cowboy Hats: Different and the Same no comments
Hardly has there ever been one piece of attire that has so successfully and so consistently represented a group of people as does the Cowboy Hat. Not very many things in American History speak so loudly of a time and of a culture as does this icon.
Because the cowboy hat has not really been around that long there was a time in the development of the western US before the cowboy hat arrived. In that time the ranchers and the cowboys of the time wore hats that were really leftovers for past lives. Some symbolized lifestyles and some occupations or countries of birth. With the cowboy hats invention that all changed.
After the cowboy hat was popularized it was known everywhere but there were still enough differences in the styles of the hat to make is a sort of marker for where the wearer may be from or at the least where he got his hat.
You may have heard the phrase function before form and in the case of the cowboy hat it really has both. Initially the hat was all about function but over time it has moved more and more into the fashion arena and toward a socially symbolic icon.
If you were to place a cowboy hat invented in 1985 by John Stetson side by side with a hat of today you would be able to tell very little difference. He sold those first hats in Central City Colorado and even though people often refer to cowboy hats a Stetsons what they are vocalizing is the brand of hat and not just what kind of hat it is.
Even today the cowboy hat projects a feeling of connection with that early lifestyle of rugged independence. Couple the hat with a great pair of boots and some good looking jeans and you have a prescription for personal transformation at least until one changes clothes.
Originally cowboy hats were created to protect the wearer from the elements and weather conditions. In modern times the cowboy hat has transformed from a functional piece of equipment to a fashion statement. Some designers whole jobs involve the design of fashion cowboy hats for the pretend cowboy market.
The fabric that has risen to the top in hat making is felt as it tends to outshine every other in terms of durability and comfort. The smooth texture, light weight and moisture resistant character make it the perfect material for cowboy hats. Mens hats have tended to stay in the traditional colors of brown, grey and black, the most popular of which is grey. While womens lean toward more color variety.
Many of you may have seen Xs on the inside band of a cowboy hat and originally this was to signify the quality of the hat and the comparative content of beaver in it. Today beaver is normally not used to make hats and the Xs have become very subjective as each manufacturer sets their own standards for the marking system. A person is not able to compare between brands just by comparing Xs.
All the all the cowboy hat has endured the test of time and changed with the times to continue to be a staple of our society and truly is an American icon that is sure to stay with us for a long time to come. Enjoy your hat and wear it proudly and know what it stands for and where it came from.

Cowboy Boots and the Modern Shopper no comments
There was a time when wearing cowboy boots would come in and out of fashion every few years and were otherwise relegated to the movies and CMT. It now has become more acceptable for them to be worn as a fashion accessory. Here we will list guidelines that can be used to find a decent pair of cowboy boots that will outlast the fickle fashion season.
First we need to consider how to make sure we get the right size boot. The magic bullet for making sure your boots are going to fit for later is to know that that they will stretch as they wear. The main thing is to buy them just a little more fitted than you might want them later. The other thing to remember is that you want the widest part of your foot to set right in the widest part of the boot. If it is too far forward you have the wrong boot.
The second thing to be aware of is what your new boots are made of. There are many skins to use for making boots as well as man made material. Sometimes they can be common like cowhide and other times a more rare animal skin. Obviously the more rare the material the more costly they can be but often those are sought after for the exclusivity as well as the feel and look of a particular skin.
The next step in this journey to boot happiness is to know what to do in order to break the boot in properly. There is an old fashion way to do this and it is free but it takes time. Here it is… are you ready? Wear them. Yes, that is the best way to make sure that your boots are broken in properly and give you years of comfortable enjoyment.
The look of your boot is the next thing to consider when you purchase a new pair of boots. They come in many colors and as mentioned earlier they can come in many materials too. The stitching on the boot can make them very distinctive and also most boots have some sort of pattern sewn right into the boot itself. The patterns are almost always some sort of western or Indian pattern with animals, birds or cowboys. It is all a matter of taste and you get to decide what you like best.
Now we need to discuss the cost. Cowboy boots can vary from under $100 to several thousand dollars for a custom pair. You can even go lower if you are willing to acquire a pre-broken in pair. Online auctions and second hand stores as well as yard sales can sometimes yield a great bargain for the cost conscious. On the other end of the spectrum you will find rare leather and hand sewn patterns that run in the thousands if you are willing to pay.
That wraps up our list of things you need to consider for a well thought out purchase of a pair of cowboy boots. If you will use this criteria you should find that you have a pair that will serve your purposes and fit your budget. Happy trails and happy boots my friend.

What Sort of Handbag Should You Buy? no comments
Handbags will always be a mystery to men but for women a handbag isn’t just a fashion accessory it also holds so many items that a woman cannot function properly without. If you were to take woman’s handbag away from her she would feel very lost indeed. There are many brands of handbag that women aspire to and these can often include Gucci, Chloe and Prada.
Handbags can be very practical however they are also often chosen purely to look good with whatever outfit is being worn. Normally a woman won’t receive many compliments about her bag, especially not from men, however other women who take a keen interest in fashion will often dole out the compliments. This is something that a women especially looks to happen.
However not everyone will have the same opinion on what makes up an attractive handbag. For instance, one of the most popular bag is by Louis Vuitton. Despite the fact that it is brown and the fact that it is often copied and sold cheaply at markets, many women with the cash to spend will happily buy one. There are other colors and styles of handbag of course and every woman who adores handbags will have their very own “wish list”.
Who can understand why women have developed such a strong relationship with a handbag but for many there is much more to owning a bag than simply to store makeup and money. A handbags sends out signals about wealth, status, style and attractiveness. Of course, what sort of bag a particular celebrity is wearing will naturally influence the buying decision of many women around the globe.
Some people are very particular about what type, brand and authenticity of handbag they buy. Unfortunately, many of the designer brands attach large price tags to them and this means that for many ordinary people, the cost is very prohibitive. No wonder there are so many people selling fakes at market stalls and also on the internet. If you are buying a fake handbag it’s important to note that often the quality is very poor and the materials used really reduce the overall appearance. If you are told that a bag is genuine but the price is a fraction of what it should be, then you really need to be wary about this. If the bag is used then obviously it will be cheaper but if it’s new then you should buy at your own risk.

Some Things To Consider When Buying Shoes no comments
Children can be very hard on shoes and they tend to wear them out much more quickly than the rest of the population. As a parent it is our duty to constantly monitor our children’s shoes and inspect them for uneven wear, stressed seams, holes in the soles, etc.
One sure sign that the child’s shoes do not fit properly is bulging out from the sides and toes curving upwards. If you discover worn out toes or heels then you know you definitely need to buy new shoes.
We have assembled some tips to help you when shopping for shoes for your child; hopefully this will help you with your mission.
The first thing you need to do is always shop for shoes in the afternoon or evening because feet swell during the day and the shoes will fit differently in the afternoon than in the morning.
Always have your children’s feet measured each time you buy shoes. The child’s feet should be measured while standing and you should always have both feet measured since one foot will usually be larger than the other. Always buy shoes to accommodate the larger foot.
When fitting the shoe to your child leave approximately a half inch of clearance between the end of the shoe and the edge of your child’s toes. At the same time do not buy shoes that are more than one size too large for your child. Buying shoes that are too big can cause your child’s foot to slip within the shoe and make them trip. Also, be sure that the heel of the shoe rests comfortably around the back of the foot while at the same time, not too tight.
The shoes you are buying for the child should feel good and fit properly now. Don’t buy the shoes with the thought that they will feel better once they get broken in.
You should buy shoes for children that have laces so that they can be adjusted and tightened properly. Also, buy children’s shoes from breathable materials such as canvas to help alleviate odor and promote comfort.
You should buy shoes for children with flat bottoms and sturdy, flexible soles with a patterned grip to prevent slipping.
By following the guidelines above you will have a much more enjoyable experience shopping for your child.
